Next, you’ll need to have plans drawn up by a designer. If you need help finding one, we can recommend a couple of options.

Once the plans are finalized, ensure that all your permit applications have been submitted. This can be done yourself, through your designer or through your contractor. Receiving your permits can take anywhere from two weeks to two months so plan ahead.

When all the permits have been approved, the building process can begin. Keeping your contractor in the loop throughout the permitting process can help ensure that everyone is on the same page about the start date of your project.
